Periyar is the first Tiger Reserve in Kerala. It is a healthy habitat for tigers with good prey-predator proportion. The very first two days are allotted to explore Periyar Tiger Reserve on foot and bamboo raft, night walk etc. Periyar is a mass tourism centre with large number of people coming for boating in the reservoir. So boating in the lake is skipped from this itinerary. Instead of boat safari small group walking safari and rafting is included. The forest type is tropical evergreen which seldom yielded sighting of big cats. But it is an experience to explore the tiger habitat on foot. Elephants , gaur, sambar, sloth bear, wild boar, Nilgiri langur, wild dog, etc are the other big mammals of the zone. Periyar is a hotspot for evergreen forest birds. A walking safari with trained naturalists from local ethnic group is an interesting experience. Accommodation in Periyar can be customized from jungle huts to luxury resorts.

Anamalais is the mountain ranges north of Munnar with steep leeward slopes and evergreen forest tracts if westward hills. The Anamalaia Tiger reserve holds five types of natural forest from Tropical wet evergreen to tropical dry arid, providing habitats for high diversity of plants, animals and birds. This tour provides 3 days in 3 different hostspot of this reserve facilitating to see various species of animals, birds and scenic wonders. Anamalai is the highest area of Western Ghats, south of Palakkad Gap facing the Nilgiris in the North. It is one of the largest habitat of Asiatic Elephants and wild gaur on earth.
